The partners of the European MOOC Consortium (EMC) are Europe's top eight MOOC platforms and partnerships
These partners represent most of the MOOC development work in Europe in terms of learners and number of MOOCs, by offering together over 3000 MOOCs. Together, they represent a large network of 400 higher education institutions (HEIs) and companies working in a variety of European languages, including English, France, Spanish, Italian, German and Portuguese. The creation of the EMC accelerates the collaboration between the major European MOOC players and creates the power and the volume for a serious European MOOC movement.
Funded by the Italian Ministry of Education, EduOpen is aimed at creating a platform for offering MOOCs through a network of Italian universities and selected partners. This network is open to other universities and significant scientific and cultural organizations.
The project's ethos aligns with the Open and Digital Education movement, which is rapidly growing globally, attracting a vast number of users each month, equivalent to the intake of a medium-sized university.
The FUN-MOOC platform is the reference academic platform in the French-speaking world with the aim of providing free, high-quality education to a vast audience through online courses.
Many learners on FUN MOOC are employees pursuing professional goals or seeking new skills for career transitions. Businesses appreciate the FUN catalogue for its relevance in professional development and as a training resource.
FutureLearn, established by The Open University (UK), is among Europe's top online learning platforms. It focuses on using design, technology, and collaborations to create engaging and flexible online courses, including undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.
FutureLearn partners with many of the world’s top universities, as well as organisations such as Accenture, the British Council, CIPD, Raspberry Pi and Health Education England (NHS). It is also involved in government-backed initiatives to address skills gaps such as The Institute of Coding and the National Centre for Computing Education.
The Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI) is a distinct faculty of Digital Engineering at the University of Potsdam, Germany. Known for its digital engineering excellence, HPI merges top-tier research and teaching with the benefits of private funding, offering tuition-free programs. With the support of the benefactor Hasso Plattner and international collaborations reaching Silicon Valley, the institute's offerings continue to expand.
A standout initiative is openHPI, their digital education platform. Since 2012, HPI experts have developed interactive MOOCs on IT, Digital Health, and Design Thinking for openHPI, available in German and English.
OpenupEd is an open, non-profit portal from universities offering MOOCs on their own platforms, benefiting both individuals and society. It aims to make online higher education accessible and tailored to learners' specific situations.
OpenupEd provides high-quality, learner-focused courses designed for flexible self-learning in various languages. They offer both self-paced and scheduled MOOCs that embody the principles of open education, which seeks to eliminate barriers and diversify learning and knowledge-sharing methods.
The AI Campus, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), is a learning platform offering free resources on artificial intelligence (AI) and data literacy. It was collaboratively developed by organizations including the Stifterverband, German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), the Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI), NEOCOSMO and the mmb Institute, with a beta release in 2020.
The platform not only covers foundational AI topics and interdisciplinary research like machine learning, but also focuses on creating learning opportunities tailored to specific sectors or areas, such as the application of AI in medicine.
NAU is an innovative online project in Portugal, supported by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and its FCCN Unit. It offers MOOC-style courses to a wide audience, fostering digital development and education. NAU aligns with Portugal's INCoDe.2030 initiative, promoting digital development, digital inclusion and literacy, education and qualification of the active population.
NAU's aim is to be the reference platform for Portuguese-speaking knowledge, to encourage requalification and lifelong learning, to scale the dissemination of online courses, to promote a culture of knowledge and continuous learning, particularly in the Portuguese population, and to stimulate digital literacy.
iMooX offers freely accessible and openly licensed online courses (Massive Open Online Courses) on various topics. They are available to all interested parties free of charge, independent of time and location.
iMooX's goal is to make university-level educational content accessible to a broad section of the population and to allow as many people as possible to further their education. Every semester, more exciting courses are added to the platform. We offer free and openly licensed educational content for everyone - learn anytime, anywhere.
