As a trusted digital issuer, the European MOOC Consortium (EMC) provides e-Sealing services to ensure that digital credentials that comply with the Common Microcredential Framework (CMF), are verifiable, tamper-proof, and legally recognised across Europe. Our e-Seal, aligned with the European Digital Credentials for Learning (EDC) framework, enable students and professionals to showcase their achievements with confidence and ease.

What is e-Sealing?

E-Sealing is the digital equivalent of a physical seal or signature, offering a secure way to authenticate digital documents and credentials. It confirms that a document originates from a trusted issuer and that its content has not been altered. Through our e-Sealing service, EMC ensures that credentials issued on behalf of our partner institutions meet the highest standards of security, authenticity, and legal recognition.

Why is it important?

In today’s digital world, it is essential for learners and employers to trust the authenticity of digital credentials. E-Sealing provides:

Legal assurance: E-Seals meet the eIDAS (Electronic Identification, Authentication, and Trust Services) standards, guaranteeing legal recognition across EU member states.

Authenticity: The e-Seal certifies that the credential is issued by a trusted organisation and has not been tampered with.

Portability: E-Sealed credentials are easily shareable and portable, supporting learners in their educational and professional pursuits across Europe and beyond.

Benefits of EMC’s e-Seal

EMC supports the credentialing needs of educational institutions, professional training bodies, and learners across Europe. Here’s how our e-Seal benefits EMC partners:

  • Reliability and trust: All e-Sealed credentials issued by EMC are trusted and recognised by educational institutions, employers, and EU governments, ensuring credibility for learners and institutions alike.
  • Streamlined verification and transparency: With visible verification features, e-sealed credentials simplify the process of checking qualifications, saving time for employers and institutions.
  • Direct integration with Europass: E-Sealed credentials issued by EMC can be directly stored in Europass, a recognised EU platform, providing learners with a centralised digital space for their achievements.
  • Portability and flexibility: E-Sealed credentials can be stored and shared digitally, allowing learners to use their verified credentials for career growth, further studies, or personal development.
