MOOCs for the Labour Market

EMC-LM brings together MOOC platforms, universities and public employment services to meet the learning needs of the European labour market.

Why MOOCs?

EMC-LM is based on a firm belief that the most efficient way to tackle the learning needs of the European workforce is through a structural collaboration with public employment services active on the national labour markets or with sectoral organisations and directly with companies.

Through EMC-LM, employment services, MOOC platforms and course providers, are creating the framework for this structural collaboration by building expertise in the delivery of MOOCS to job-seekers as well as those employed in different sectors.

The structural approach taken by EMC-LM can significantly enhance the competitiveness of the European economy.

MOOC platforms like Futurelearn, Fun, Miriadax and EduOpen and the OpenupEd partnership cannot meet European education and training needs alone which is why it was so important to build this knowledge alliance with public employment services, which implement public employment strategies and organise education and training for the workforce in every European Union country.

EMC-LM will:

  • Strengthen the partners in the knowledge alliance by sharing experience and expertise on MOOCs and digital education and training
  • Create a framework for structural collaboration on developing, delivering and using MOOCs, to meet the needs of the EU labour market
  • Provide more high quality MOOCs and digital education and training opportunities for the European labour market
  • Implement a more structured outreach for continuous education and training and career development for the EU labour market
  • Enhance the European workforce in terms of employability, innovation and entrepreneurship
  • Raise the competitiveness of regions and member states
  • Bring into practice the Modernisation and Skills Agendas of the European Commission

The EMC-LM structural framework will enable partners develop, deliver and use MOOCs and digital education/training opportunities more effectively for the EU labour market.

This framework is based on an exchange of expertise and experience and agreed concepts, roles and MOOC delivery mechanisms.
